LA Players at 2008 U.S. Open
Reported by Mariano Sana

I just came back from the US Open in Dallas. Vincent
Glorioso continues his rapid improvement, and delivered the
best performance among LA players, finishing with a
commendable 6 points (out of 9 rounds), which will propel
him from his current rating of 1945 to 2000.
Congratulations to Vincent! [See] his last
round victory against WFM Chouchanik Airapetian (2152), an
exciting KID game.

The second Louisianian was Jerry Markley, who
collected 5.5 points and will gain some 8 points of rating
(from 1946 to 1954). Ben Bailey didn’t have a good
tournament and decided to quit after 5 rounds. He did fine
in the blitz tourney, though.

I finished with 5 points and will see my rating go
down from 2178 to 2165. Not a great tournament, but I did
have a flashy win in round 2 against Caroline Zhu, a strong
scholastic player. [See] that game as well.

The rest of LA players were: Jim McManus (4.5, rating
from 1746 to 1747), Caster Jones (3.5, from 1498 to 1580!),
Wayne Broussard (3.5, from 1328 to 1332), Roy Pitchford
(3.0, from 1216 to 1252).
